One person died, and two others were hurt in a suspected DUI crash south of Arvin on Friday night. CHP says alcohol or drugs appeared to be factors.
How the Arvin Crash Happened
CHP’s preliminary findings say the driver of a Toyota made an unsafe turning movement. The Toyota crossed the painted broken yellow lines, entered the northbound lane, and collided with a Honda.
The Honda’s right-front passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The Honda’s driver suffered major injuries, and the Toyota’s driver suffered moderate injuries.
DUI as a Factor in the Crash
CHP said alcohol or drugs appeared to be factors. The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been reported since the crash.
Impaired driving crashes are among the most preventable causes of serious injury and death on Kern County roads.
Legal Options After a Suspected DUI Collision
A passenger or driver hurt by a suspected impaired driver may have several paths to compensation. These can include a personal injury claim against the at-fault driver and a wrongful death claim for the family of someone who died.
Depending on the facts, California law may allow additional damages in certain drunk-driving cases. Most personal injury claims must be filed within two years, and wrongful death claims follow the same general deadline.
Insurance coverage also matters. Early steps to preserve evidence and document injuries can protect a future claim.
