1300+A weekend off-road accident in the desert outside Victorville has left one teenage boy dead and another injured, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
What Happened
Deputies, American Medical Response, and San Bernardino County Fire crews responded to a single-vehicle rollover at approximately 5:43 p.m. Sunday. The crash occurred in an open desert field near Winona Street between Sunset Canyon Way and Sixth Avenue, east of Arrowhead Drive.
A 2021 Can-Am off-road vehicle carrying three teenage boys was involved in the crash. Investigators say the 15-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll onto its roof. The driver was not injured.
Victims of the Accident
The front seat passenger, also a 15-year-old boy, was not wearing his seat belt and was partially ejected from the vehicle during the rollover. He suffered major injuries and was transported to Desert Valley Hospital in Victorville, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The rear seat passenger, a 13-year-old boy, sustained a minor hand injury and was also taken to Desert Valley Hospital for treatment.
Ongoing Investigation into the Rollover Crash
Investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigative Team arrived at the scene and conducted a nearly four-hour investigation, processing evidence and interviewing witnesses.
