A crash involving a semi-truck closed all lanes of Highway 99 in Delano early Thursday morning, causing major traffic delays before crews were able to clear the roadway.
When and How the Semi-Truck Crash Occurred
The truck crash occurred near Woollomes Avenue in Delano on Thursday morning. It initially closed both the northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 99 while crews worked to clear debris from the roadway.
By around 6:05 a.m., the northbound lanes reopened to traffic. Southbound lanes remained closed for several more hours, with drivers diverted off the freeway at Woollomes Avenue.
As of later Thursday morning, all lanes have reopened following the cleanup.
Traffic Impact on the 99 Freeway and Lane Closures
Drivers heading through the Delano area faced major delays during the closure. Southbound traffic was rerouted off Highway 99 while crews cleared the scene, adding significant time to commutes for anyone traveling through Kern County on the 99 corridor.
Details on what caused the crash, along with information on any injuries, have not yet been released.
Semi-Truck Accidents Throughout the Central Valley
Highway 99 sees a steady stream of commercial truck traffic moving through the Central Valley, and crashes involving semis often lead to extended closures due to the vehicles’ size and the debris they leave behind. These crashes can also result in serious injuries for occupants of smaller passenger vehicles.
Anyone involved in a crash with a semi-truck may be dealing with significant vehicle damage, medical bills, and time away from work.
Commercial truck accident claims can also involve additional parties, including trucking companies and insurers, which can make the claims process more complicated than a typical car accident.
