1300+A 6-year-old boy died Saturday night after his father accidentally backed over him in the driveway of their home just east of Temecula. The California Highway Patrol confirmed the child’s death on Monday, opening a fresh investigation into how the tragedy unfolded.
What Happened in the Driveway Accident
The crash happened just before 9 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, outside a family residence on Brookhaven Court near Highway 79, in an area just east of Temecula in Riverside County.
According to CHP Officer Jesus Garcia, 48-year-old Tarik El Guindy was backing his Tesla Cybertruck out of the driveway when the vehicle struck his son, 6-year-old Preston El Guindy.
Garcia confirmed that the Tesla was not operating in autopilot mode at the time of the incident. No dashboard alerts appear to have warned the father that his son was behind the vehicle.
Tarik El Guindy called 911 immediately. Riverside County Fire Department paramedics arrived within minutes and rushed Preston to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar, where he died that night.
CHP said there was no indication that alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. Investigators had not released further findings as of Monday, and the case remained open.
