1300+A pedestrian suffered severe injuries Monday evening after being struck by a pickup truck on southbound Highway 99 in Bakersfield.
What Happened During the Pedestrian Accident
The California Highway Patrol responded to the crash around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2026. The collision occurred on southbound Highway 99, just north of Panama Lane.
According to CHP’s preliminary investigation, a Toyota pickup truck was traveling southbound on Highway 99 in an unknown lane at an unknown speed. At the same time, a male pedestrian was walking on the freeway in an unknown direction.
The Toyota struck the pedestrian. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
The pedestrian was transported to Kern Medical with severe injuries.
Investigation Details
CHP said it is unclear whether alcohol or drugs were a factor of the pedestrian. Investigators confirmed that alcohol and drugs were not a factor for the driver of the Toyota.
The roadway was briefly blocked while officers completed their investigation.
