The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office has identified the two people killed in a small plane crash in Hesperia, California. The crash happened Thursday morning, September 24, 2026, near Summit Valley Road and Telephone Canyon Road.
Victims Identified from the Crash
The pilot was Guy Kapulnik, 46, of Los Angeles. The passenger was Taylor Laska, 33, of Santa Monica. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the coroner’s office.
Media reports also describe Kapulnik as a flight instructor and actor. Laska’s relationship to the pilot has not been made public.
What Happened During the Plane Crash
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded at about 9:53 a.m. to reports of an aircraft down in the area. Multiple witnesses called 911 after seeing the plane fall and strike the ground in a field, according to San Bernardino County Fire.
Crews found the aircraft nose down. The crash scene is about 2 to 3 miles from Hesperia Airport. Summit Valley Road stayed open to traffic, and police asked the public to keep clear of the scene.
The Aircraft and Investigation
The Federal Aviation Administration identified the plane as a single-engine Aeronca Champion. Midfield Aviation, based in Apple Valley, confirmed the aircraft belonged to the company.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating. A preliminary FAA report lists the crash as occurring under unknown circumstances, and no cause has been announced. Investigations like this can take months.
Why Answers Matter After a Fatal Crash
Families often have urgent questions after a sudden loss. They may wonder what led to the crash, who was responsible for maintenance, and what options exist. Official findings from the NTSB and FAA are the best source for what caused the crash.
Accidents involving aircraft can be complex and may involve several parties. Speaking with an experienced wrongful death attorney early can help families understand their rights while evidence is still being gathered.
