1300+26-Year-Old Man Shot and Killed at McFarland Laundromat, No Arrests Made

A 26-year-old McFarland man is dead after a shooting inside a local laundromat over the weekend, and investigators say the search for two suspects is ongoing.
The McFarland Police Department responded to a shooting call around 3:18 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, in the 100 block of Perkins Avenue. The call came from the Capri Laundromat, located adjacent to a gas station and liquor store in the area.
When officers arrived, they found a 26-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside the laundromat. Officers began providing immediate medical aid and requested emergency medical services to the scene.
Victim Died En Route to Medical Care
Despite CPR and lifesaving efforts on scene, the victim was pronounced dead. The Kern County Coroner’s Office later identified him as Alfonzo Jacobo Espitia. According to the coroner’s report, Espitia died in the 700 block of Browning Road while being transported toward a Medi-Vac location for further emergency treatment.
McFarland Police detectives initiated a homicide investigation and took over the case from patrol officers who first responded to the scene.
Argument Preceded the Shooting, Police Say
According to preliminary information from investigators, two unidentified suspects arrived at a nearby liquor store on Perkins Avenue before confronting the victim inside the laundromat. Police have not released a motive for the confrontation.
During the argument that followed, one of the suspects allegedly produced a firearm and shot the victim multiple times. Both suspects then fled the scene in an unknown vehicle before officers arrived.
No Suspects Identified, Investigation Ongoing
As of the most recent update, McFarland police have not identified any suspects, and no arrests have been made. Detectives continue to gather evidence and process the scene as the investigation develops.
