1300+APPLE VALLEY, CA — A 41-year-old man died after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene on State Highway 18 in Apple Valley early Friday morning, according to the Apple Valley Station of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
About the Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash
The crash was reported at approximately 1:02 a.m. on August 28, 2026, in the 19800 block of State Highway 18.
Deputies who responded found the pedestrian, later identified as Cassidy Kelsay, suffering from injuries after being hit. Authorities described Kelsay as a transient residing in Apple Valley.
Kelsay was taken to St. Mary Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
The vehicle involved fled before deputies arrived. No description of the car or driver has been released.
Investigation Ongoing
Deputies with the Apple Valley Major Accident Investigation Team have taken over the case. Authorities say more details will be released as the investigation develops.
