1300+A Rancho Cucamonga brewery that frustrated neighbors will soon become a fire station. The city approved a purchase of nearly $8 million, ending a months-long dispute in a residential area.
What Happened in Rancho Cucamonga
Hamilton Family Brewery opened last year at Eighth Street and Archibald. Residents say the change was immediate.
Armando Moreno has lived nearby for almost 40 years. He says the neighborhood lost its quiet feel, with parking hard to find and people urinating on the street.
After several neighborhood protests, the Rancho Cucamonga City Council approved a $7.8 million purchase agreement. The deal is between the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District and the brewery’s owners. The city began looking into complaints against the brewery in March.
The Owner’s Perspective
Owner Josh Hamilton says selling was not an easy decision. He says he paid $2.5 million for the property and spent millions more turning it into a working brewery.
Hamilton now sees the sale as a win for everyone, including relief from the stress of neighbor disputes. He expects to return to his former location on Seventh Street and build a tasting room there.
Why a Fire Station?
Fire officials say a station at this site would improve emergency response times. Some residents have questioned the price. The fire department will cover most of the cost, with the city contributing the rest.
The fire district already bought a separate plot for a new station and plans to sell it. The council approved that sale last week, but it still has to clear escrow.
Moreno says the cost is worth it. He notes the neighborhood has no fire station nearby.
