1300+Oil Spill From Semi-Truck Shuts Down Lanes on Southbound I-15 Near Nisqualli Road
Highway Patrol Responds to Sunday Afternoon Spill
A large oil spill from a semi-truck triggered a lane closure on southbound Interstate 15 near Nisqualli Road on Sunday afternoon. The incident was first reported at approximately 4:14 p.m. on August 23, 2026, according to California Highway Patrol incident logs.
Initial reports indicated the semi-truck had pulled onto the right-hand shoulder after a substantial amount of oil began leaking onto the roadway. The spill was first identified in the No. 2 lane before a later update confirmed it had spread into the No. 3 lane as well.
Incident Reclassified as Spilled Material
At 4:26 p.m., Victorville CHP updated the classification of the incident from a disabled occupied vehicle to a spilled-material response. This shift brought additional cleanup resources to the scene as officials assessed the scope of the spill.
By 4:52 p.m., authorities confirmed that Caltrans crews would need to close the No. 3 lane along with the Nisqualli Road off-ramp due to the extent of the oil on the roadway. Caltrans maintenance vehicles were positioned along the freeway shoulder as crews worked to apply absorbent material and clear the lanes.
No Injuries Reported, But Delays Expected
No injuries were reported in connection with the spill. Motorists traveling through the area were advised to expect delays while cleanup crews worked to restore full use of the freeway and off-ramp.
Oil and other fluids on the roadway reduce traction, increase stopping distances, and can catch other drivers off guard, especially in the moments before a lane closure is fully in place.
