Hollywood’s biggest night is almost here, and if you’re planning to drive, walk, or take public transit anywhere near the Dolby Theatre this weekend, brace yourself for the numerous road closures and detours.
Everything You Need to Know About the 2026 Oscars Street Closures Today Through Monday, March 16
The 98th Academy Awards are set for Sunday, March 15, 2026, beginning at 4:00 p.m. PST, and the City of Los Angeles has implemented one of its most sweeping road and sidewalk closure plans of the year to accommodate the event.
Whether you’re a local resident, a commuter, or just someone trying to grab dinner in Hollywood, here is everything you need to know before venturing out into the city.
Street and Sidewalk Closures Began Earlier This Week
Surprisingly, the Oscars street closures started nearly a month ago, not this weekend. The first closure, Johnny Grant Way between Orange Drive and Orchid Avenue, began on February 22. That closure is scheduled to remain in place another full week until 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 21.

Hollywood Boulevard and Orange Drive had restrictions starting March 1st, escalating to overnight closures around Hawthorn Avenue, Hawthorn Alley, and the Dolby Theatre. By Oscar weekend, the core of Hollywood was closed to traffic.

Helpful Transit Tips for Getting Around the City
- Metro B Line (Red Line): The Hollywood/Highland (Ovation Hollywood) MTA station will be bypassed from the last regularly scheduled train Saturday night through the first scheduled train after 6 a.m. Monday, March 16 — approximately 30 hours with no service at this stop
- Alternative station: Use the Hollywood/Vine station and walk or take a local bus toward the venue
- Bus routes: MTA will re-route bus traffic throughout the Hollywood corridor, but check Metro Rider Alerts before heading out
- Driving: Use Waze or Google Maps, which will be updated with official city closure data; avoid Highland Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard entirely if possible
- Residents & workers: Carry proof of residence or work credentials, as certain areas require them starting March 13
