A 32-year-old Victorville man was arrested Wednesday afternoon, October 14, 2026, after San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies reported finding a firearm and suspected fentanyl during a traffic stop in Apple Valley.
What Happened During the Stop
Deputies with the Apple Valley Station’s Gang Enforcement Team stopped a vehicle at about 1:46 p.m. near Bear Valley Road and Cottontail Lane for vehicle code violations.
The man was a passenger. According to the Sheriff’s Department, deputies saw a firearm within reach of both him and the driver.
When deputies tried to detain him, he ran on foot. He did not get far and was taken into custody.
A search of the vehicle turned up a small amount of suspected fentanyl, and deputies recovered the firearm. The department did not say what type of gun it was. The driver was released at the scene.
Charges and Booking
The man was booked into the High Desert Detention Center on suspicion of two offenses:
- Possession of a controlled substance while armed, under Health and Safety Code 11370.1(a)
- Being a felon in possession of a firearm, under Penal Code 29800(a)(1)
The suspected fentanyl was sent to a crime laboratory for analysis. An arrest is not a conviction, and the charges remain allegations until proven in court.
Sheriff’s Department Statement
The Gang Enforcement Team said it remains committed to proactive enforcement aimed at removing illegal firearms and dangerous drugs from the community.

Why This Matters for Roadway Safety
Nothing in the report suggests anyone was hurt. Still, every traffic stop starts with a vehicle code violation, and those same violations cause crashes across the High Desert every day.
Speeding, unsafe lane changes, and ignoring signals put everyone on the road at risk. When drugs or weapons are also in a vehicle, the danger to other drivers, passengers, and pedestrians can grow.
How a Personal Injury Attorney Can Help
If you were hurt by a driver who was reckless, impaired, or breaking traffic laws, you may be entitled to compensation. A personal injury lawyer can investigate the crash, identify every liable party, and handle the insurance company so you can focus on healing.
Fault is not always clear-cut. Under California’s comparative negligence law, you can still recover compensation even if you were partly responsible. Deadlines also matter, so it helps to understand the statute of limitations for car accident claims in California.
If you were injured in a crash in Apple Valley, Victorville, or anywhere in the High Desert, Attorney Jeff’s Victorville office offers free consultations and works on a contingency fee basis, so you pay nothing unless there is a recovery.
