A multi-vehicle collision shut down every southbound lane of Interstate 15 in Hesperia on Thursday afternoon, October 15, 2026. The crash happened beneath the Highway 395 overpass and left traffic crawling for miles.
What Happened on the Southbound 15 in Hesperia
According to Victor Valley News, the crash was reported just before 4:30 p.m. It took place in the fast lane of the freeway.
Five vehicles were involved: two pickup trucks, a minivan, an SUV, and a white Tesla.
All southbound lanes were blocked, and traffic was stopped for about 20 minutes. The backup stretched several miles.
One Driver Taken to the Hospital
One of the drivers, who is four months pregnant, complained of abdominal pain. Firefighters transported her to a local hospital.
The cause of the crash has not been released. Additional details are expected as the investigation continues.
Why Multi-Vehicle Freeway Crashes Are So Complicated
When five vehicles collide, determining fault is rarely simple. Each driver may tell a different story, and each may have a different insurance company.
California follows a pure comparative negligence rule. That means more than one driver can share blame, and an injured person can still recover compensation even if partly at fault. Insurers often use that rule to push more responsibility onto the victim.
Evidence matters in these cases. Dashcam footage, vehicle data, witness statements, and the official collision report can all affect who is held responsible.
Pregnant Crash Victims Should Not Wait for Medical Care
Pain after a crash is a signal to get checked, and that is especially true during pregnancy. Abdominal pain, cramping, or bleeding after a collision can point to problems that are not obvious right away.
Even when a crash feels minor, medical records created soon after the accident also document the injury and link it to the collision. That record can become important if a claim follows.
Legal Deadlines Can Come Sooner Than You Think
Most California injury claims must be filed within two years of the accident. Claims involving a government entity, such as Caltrans, can require a formal notice in as little as six months.
Missing a deadline can permanently end your right to compensation.
